STORIES

In South Asia, millions of children face a ‘youth divide.’ While literacy rates are rising, the transition to safe, dignified adulthood is blocked by systemic exploitation and a lack of practical skills.

Dorji Lama

As an artist at BIA, Dorji struggled with his sitting control and fine motor skills while working in the Arts Department, where he was taught to create beautiful carved Buddhist statues.

Dorji’s physiotherapist, the Nepali Physiotherapist Barsha, supported by Kids First Nepal, led sessions with him and assisted him in the art studio. His sessions focused on his wishes and goals, with Barsha helping him turn these ideas into reality through adaptations. They worked together to develop a space that promoted motivational and creative activities to encourage engagement and self-expression. Over time, Dorji demonstrated greater participation in art activities, expressing pride in contributing more effectively to his work.
